1. Acidity and alkalinity: In many cases, the pH value of the solution in the process is rarely considered. In the production process, this may be a key and well controlled factor. When evaluating the characteristics of the solution for the purpose of selecting materials, the pH value can correctly reveal some problems. One reason for ignoring the pH is that it is usually obvious whether the corrosive substance is acidic or alkaline. However, this situation is not always correct, especially for process solutions. The pH of process solutions may be adjustable, so that these solutions will often be either acidic or alkaline. If the above situation exists, you should know the details so that you can make a more comprehensive analysis. It is also very important to know when the solution alternates between acidic and alkaline conditions, because this situation can have a significant impact on the choice of materials. Although some materials are completely suitable for delivering a given alkaline solution or acidic solution, they may not be suitable for delivering these same solutions alternately.
 
 
2. Temperature: commonly used terms such as "hot", "cold" or even "ambient temperature" are not clear. More appropriate terms should be high, low, and normal operating temperature. Generally speaking, for every 10°C increase in temperature, the rate of chemical reaction increases approximately 2-3 times. It can be considered that corrosion is a chemical reaction. Based on this idea, the importance of temperature or temperature range is obvious. Pump installations installed in the open air are a good example of the inaccuracy of the term "ambient temperature". For example, such a pump may have a temperature difference of up to 83°C between cold weather and hot weather. If the temperature cannot be accurately stated, the geographic location of the pump should be stated to describe the ambient temperature. This is particularly important for materials that are subject to thermal shock in addition to a high corrosion rate in high temperature environments.
 
 
3. Air or no air: The presence of air in the solution is worth noting. In some cases, it is related to success or failure, which can be associated with turning a reducing solution into an oxidizing solution, which requires completely different materials. A good example in this regard is the self-priming nickel-molybdenum alloy pump for commercial pure hydrochloric acid. This alloy is an excellent material for commercial pure hydrochloric acid, but any conditions that can cause even a slight tendency to oxidize make the same alloy completely unsuitable. The fact that the pump is a self-priming pump means that gas content is a factor to be dealt with. When using an alloy that is not suitable for working in an oxidizing environment, a solemn warning must be given. The presence of air not only affects head-flow characteristics, but also affects NPSHR. The allowable limit gas volume ratio of conventional centrifugal pumps is about 5%.
